The film’s iconic, T Bone Burnett–produced soundtrack helped spark a renaissance of roots music—bringing bluegrass, gospel, blues, country, and folk back into the spotlight. O Brother, Where Art Thou? was produced by T Bone Burnett for the 2000 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name, which was set in rural Mississippi during the Great Depression and starred George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as three escaped convicts. The soundtrack climbed to the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 after winning multiple GRAMMY® Awards, including Album of the Year. It was also named Album of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards and the IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards. The film and soundtrack sparked a 21st-century cultural renaissance, reintroducing traditional American roots music to the masses and inspiring a new wave of popular music, rooted in the American South – a movement that Lost Highway Records was at the epicenter of.
Pitchfork observed, “O Brother, Where Art Thou? primed a generation for a modern folk revival…All of a sudden, people who thought they didn’t like ‘folk music’ found themselves enjoying it. The old songs pressed on the reminiscences of some of its audience while acting as a new portal to the past for others.” Rolling Stone said, “[The] Coen brothers, together with producer T Bone Burnett, have assembled a collection of folk, bluegrass, gospel and hobo country so true to the music’s down-home, egalitarian roots that it’s hard to distinguish the old tracks from the new.”
O Brother, Where Art Thou? was the biggest-selling soundtrack of the decade according to Billboard and, in recent years, has been named as one of the best soundtracks of all time by such outlets as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Time Out and Parade. As contemporary artists continue to reimagine its songs – such as Home Free’s cover of “Man of Constant Sorrow” and Pepper Coyote’s version of “Big Rock Candy Mountain” – the soundtrack’s resounding impact is clear.

Orbit Culture Release Live Video For «The Storm» + North American Tour Starts 2/18
Right before embarking on their next quest — an extensive tour throughout USA and Canada with support coming from Ov Sulfur and Atlas — ORBIT CULTURE are releasing a live video for the fan-favorite «The Storm,» which was filmed by Riivata Visuals and Grimvisions during their highly successful European tour last winter.
Watch the video here.
The band comments, «This video for ‘The Storm’ documents our last headline tour. Most of the footage was shot in Gothenburg, close to where we come from. Watching it now brings us back to a night that carried real weight — intense, focused, and honest. It was a defining moment for us, and ‘The Storm’
reflects that feeling without needing to explain it.»
It marks another video for their acclaimed album Death Above Life that was released to overwhelmingly positive feedback by fans and media in October of last year.
«The album represents change, a new beginning,» says guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Niklas Karlsson. «It brings up a lot of good and bad emotions but it’s a big change for the better. It feels like a rebirth.»
Catch them on the upcoming dates, posted below.

Acclaimed Texas Alt-Rock Band SPARTA Stream New Documentary, «Scenic Drive,» Today Via VEEPS; Information On New Album To Be Announced Soon
VEEPS and Sparta have announced the world premiere of Scenic Drive, the acclaimed El Paso, TX-based alt-rock band’s brand new documentary. Premiering today, Thursday, February 12, Scenic Drive finds frontman Jim Ward taking a road trip — literally and figuratively — through the past while also looking forward to the future. Shot in stark, striking black and white, the film follows Ward back home in El Paso, retracing the steps, both small and significant, that he took there in his youth, alongside those he’s taking now.
One thing all humans have the unique ability to do is look back. In Scenic Drive, Ward heads steadily towards the forthcoming Sparta record by revisiting songs from earlier in the band’s career. It serves as an acknowledgement that even though he’s moving on to what he calls a new volume in his and the band’s life, the past will never not be there. The result is 40 striking, stirring, moving minutes that capture the poetry of life — of older eyes looking back on younger years — as time continues to steadily march on, the way time always does.
Join the global premiere of Sparta’s Scenic Drive, taking place today over at VEEPSHERE. A limited edition Scenic Drive t-shirt and bundle is also available for pre-order now via VEEPS. Use code 5OFF when purchasing a ticket & shirt in the same transaction for $5 off your order.
And stay tuned for more information on the forthcoming studio album from Sparta to be announced in the coming weeks.
