Diane Lane is the latest high-profile addition to Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of The Exorcist franchise.

The Oscar nominee, recently seen in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, has signed on to join Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe in the upcoming horror feature, which Flanagan is writing and directing. Sources say Lane’s character details remain undisclosed, and the story is being kept tightly guarded.

The film is described as a standalone entry set within The Exorcist universe rather than a continuation of 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. It marks the next chapter in Universal’s long-term plans for the iconic property.

Production is expected to take place in New York City. Flanagan is producing through his Red Room Pictures banner alongside David Robinson of Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Executive producers include Red Room’s Alexandra Magistro and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s Ryan Turek.

Universal has slated the film for a wide theatrical release on March 12, 2027.
