Billie Eilish and James Cameron’s 3D Concert Film Sets New May Release Date
The 3D concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft, which captures Billie Eilish’s most recent tour in support of her third studio album, will now hit theaters on May 8. The Paramount release was originally slated for March 20 but has been pushed back to allow for additional post-production work.
Co-directed by Eilish and Avatar filmmaker James Cameron, the film documents the visually ambitious tour that accompanied one of the singer’s most acclaimed albums. The revised release date means the concert film will now open against Mortal Kombat II.
Cameron shared behind-the-scenes images of himself and Eilish working in the edit suite, assuring fans that the delay will be worthwhile. “We’re refining the cut, dialing in exciting new 3D tech, and adding special behind-the-scenes elements we know you’ll love,” he wrote.
The collaboration was first announced in summer 2025 during Eilish’s sold-out performance at Manchester’s Co-op Live on Saturday, July 19. Addressing the crowd, Eilish joked that she would likely be wearing the same outfit for several consecutive shows to maintain continuity for the film. Cameron was reportedly in attendance that night, and the singer also pointed out the unusually large number of cameras positioned near the stage.
Hit Me Hard and Soft earned multiple Grammy nominations in 2025, contributing to Eilish’s impressive career total of 34 nominations. She currently holds nine Grammy Awards, along with two Oscars for Best Original Song: “No Time to Die” from the 2021 James Bond film and “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar hit Barbie. Both wins were shared with her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas O’Connell.
This isn’t Eilish’s first time serving as the subject of a film. Her rise to global stardom was previously chronicled in R.J. Cutler’s 2021 Apple TV+ documentary The World’s a Little Blurry.
Meanwhile, Cameron continues his box office dominance. Avatar: Fire and Ash, released on December 19, 2025, has already grossed $1.3 billion worldwide in just over a month.
