DC’s ‘The Brave and the Bold’ Finds Its Writer as Christina Hodson Boards New Batman Movie

DC Studios is officially moving forward with The Brave and the Bold, and it’s bringing in a familiar name to shape its version of Batman.

Christina Hodson has been set to write the screenplay for the upcoming DC Studios Batman film, with Andy Muschietti attached to direct. While DC Studios declined to comment, the move signals steady progress on one of the studio’s most important projects in its revamped DCU lineup.

Based on the DC comic of the same name, The Brave and the Bold will center on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Robin, marking the first big-screen introduction of a Bat-Family dynamic in this new continuity. Unlike recent darker, solo-focused takes on the character, this iteration is expected to lean into the idea of Batman as a father figure, setting it apart tonally and narratively from what audiences have seen before.

DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing the film, which has been in development for some time. Sources say Hodson quietly came aboard the project late last year, but the studio is taking its time. With Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II set to begin production this spring, DC is in no rush to push The Brave and the Bold into theaters, especially since the two films exist in completely separate continuities.

That distinction is key. Reeves’ Batman universe will continue on its own path, while The Brave and the Bold will serve as the official Dark Knight of the DCU Gunn and Safran are building. That gives the filmmakers more freedom to explore different themes, characters, and a broader comic-book mythology — including Robin, who has long been absent from live-action Batman films.

Hodson is no stranger to DC projects or to Muschietti. She previously collaborated with the director on The Flash, and she also penned Birds of Prey, starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Her track record suggests a writer comfortable balancing character-driven storytelling with big franchise expectations, which is exactly what a new Batman launch will require.

As for Muschietti, he remains best known for directing It and It Chapter Two, along with The Flash, and his involvement hints that The Brave and the Bold could blend emotional storytelling with large-scale spectacle.

While casting, release dates, and story specifics remain under wraps, the pieces are clearly falling into place. With Hodson writing and Muschietti directing, The Brave and the Bold is shaping up to be a defining cornerstone of DC Studios’ future — just not one they’re rushing to unveil before it’s ready.
