Edwin Hodge To Guest Star On CBS Hit ‘Matlock’ For Season 2
Edwin Hodge is heading back to CBS — and this time, it sounds like he’s bringing a whole lot of charm with him.
The FBI: Most Wanted and Winning Time alum has been cast as a guest star in Season 2 of CBS’ hit legal drama Matlock, the Jennie Snyder Urman–helmed reboot that stars Kathy Bates. Hodge will play Langston, a character who already sounds like trouble (the fun kind). He’s the sort of guy who shows up late and somehow makes everyone forget they were annoyed in the first place. Oh, and casually? He has two PhDs — one in neuroscience and one in philosophy — making him both a deep thinker and a smooth talker.
This marks a bit of a homecoming for Hodge, who wrapped up his run on FBI: Most Wanted last year after playing Special Agent Ray Cannon from Seasons 4 through 6. It also reunites him onscreen with Matlock star Skye P. Marshall, who plays Olympia Lawrence. The two previously co-starred on the short-lived CBS medical drama Good Sam — and, in a real-life twist that fans will love, they got married in 2024.
As for how Langston fits into the Matlock universe, details are being kept under wraps. That said, the character description alone has already sparked some speculation. Olympia is newly single, Langston is charming, brilliant, and seemingly impossible to ignore… you can probably connect the dots. Whether the show goes there or not remains to be seen, but it’s easy to imagine fans getting on board with the idea.
Matlock centers on Kathy Bates’ Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a sharp septuagenarian who returns to the workforce at a prestigious law firm, using her underestimated demeanor and razor-sharp instincts to win cases. Matty works closely with Olympia, a driven senior attorney with a strong moral compass, while navigating a firm that includes Olympia’s ex-husband Julian (Jason Ritter) and his father, the firm’s head, played by Beau Bridges.
Beyond Matlock, Hodge continues to stay busy. His credits include The Tomorrow War, HBO’s Winning Time, FX’s Mayans M.C., For All Mankind, Chicago Fire, and his memorable run in The Purge franchise. He’s also set to appear in the upcoming season of Amazon’s The Terminal List. Behind the camera, he and his brother Aldis Hodge recently launched Hodge Brothers Productions, focusing on genre storytelling and amplifying Black voices.
Matlock returns from its midseason hiatus on February 26, and with Edwin Hodge entering the picture, things are about to get even more interesting.
