The cast of Prime Video’s God of War series just keeps getting more stacked. Max Parker (Boots) is the latest name to join the highly anticipated adaptation of PlayStation’s beloved mythology-heavy video game franchise, and he’s stepping into a pretty major role.

Parker will play Heimdall, the Watchman of Asgard and one of Odin’s many sons. In Norse mythology (and in the God of War universe), Heimdall isn’t just another god hanging around the family table — he has the powerful ability to anticipate what’s about to happen before it does. He’s handsome, confident, and constantly underestimated, both by his father and the rest of the Asgardian hierarchy. That frustration fuels his ambition, pushing him to seek more power, status, and respect at any cost.

On screen, Parker will share the world of God of War with previously announced lead Ryan Hurst, who stars as the legendary Kratos, and Teresa Palmer, who will play Phoebe/Sif, Thor’s wife and the goddess of family.

The series comes from writer, showrunner, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind), and follows Kratos and his young son Atreus as they journey to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus pushes his father toward becoming something Kratos has never truly been — a better human.

Kratos, of course, is one of gaming’s most iconic characters. Spartan by birth and god by nature, he rose through a brutal warrior culture before making a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War — a decision that cost him his soul. Across more than ten blockbuster video games, Kratos has battled mortals, monsters, and gods alike, cementing his legacy as a tragic, stoic, and fearsome figure in pop culture.

The God of War series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, alongside PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. In addition to Moore, the executive producer lineup includes Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers. Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys) will direct the first two episodes.

As for Parker, he’s coming off Netflix’s military dramedy Boots, the final project from legendary producer Norman Lear, where he played Sgt. Liam Robert Sullivan. His work on the series earned him the Visibility Award from the Human Rights Campaign, recognizing the show’s impact on LGBTQ+ representation. Parker’s other TV credits include Vampire Academy, Emmerdale, Blood, Sex & Royalty, and Doctor Who.

With casting momentum like this, Prime Video’s God of War is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious video game adaptations yet.
