Jason Momoa, Shailene Woodley, Elijah Wood and Alec Baldwin Hit the Road in A Road Map to Happiness

Every so often a project comes along that feels less like a “series announcement” and more like an invitation to slow down a bit and reflect. A Roadmap to Happiness sounds like one of those.

The new independent travel and culture series will feature Jason Momoa, Shailene Woodley, Elijah Wood, and Alec Baldwin, and it’s set to get its first tease during next week’s Sundance Film Festival. Rather than chasing adrenaline or spectacle, the show is aiming for something much more introspective: figuring out what happiness actually looks like around the world.

The series follows author, podcaster, and wellness advocate Darin Olien — who previously teamed up with Zac Efron on Down to Earth — as he travels to different corners of the globe with his celebrity companions. The idea is simple but ambitious: meet people from different cultures, learn how they define happiness, and see what lessons might translate back to our own lives. It’s less about luxury travel and more about perspective, connection, and contentment.

Behind the scenes, Olien is joined by producers Cary Floyd, Griffin Gmelich, Heather White Rezner, and cinematographer Nick Higgins. The project is still in production, with several episodes already shot and currently in post. More celebrity participants are expected to be revealed as things move along.

For Olien, the series feels like a culmination of years spent searching for solutions to modern problems. He’s said that after traveling the world looking for answers, happiness itself turned out to be the most important one. That philosophy clearly resonated with the cast.

Jason Momoa described the experience as deeply personal, emphasizing his long-standing focus on people, the planet, and protecting what sustains us. Traveling alongside Olien, whom he calls both a friend and a “warrior for the Earth,” made the journey even more meaningful for him.

Shailene Woodley echoed that sentiment, saying the project renewed her faith in humanity — and that laughter played a big role in that process. Coming from someone who’s often drawn to thoughtful, character-driven projects, that feels especially fitting.

A seven-minute sizzle reel will debut on January 24 at Sundance, screening at the World of Hyatt on Main Street. If the footage captures even a fraction of what the cast is describing, A Roadmap to Happiness could end up being the kind of series that sneaks up on you — quietly uplifting, thoughtful, and surprisingly timely.
