John Cho Added to Cast of Apple TV+ Series The Off Weeks
John Cho has joined the cast of The Off Weeks, the new Apple TV+ series headlined and executive produced by Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain.
The project hails from director Michael Showalter and showrunner Alissa Nutting, with Apple Studios producing. Cho will appear in a recurring role alongside previously announced guest star Richard Gere.
The Off Weeks centers on Gus Adler (Stiller), a writing professor whose life is upended by divorce. As he navigates the pressures of shared custody, Gus struggles to stay afloat during his “on weeks” with his children. During his “off weeks,” however, he becomes entangled in an intense romance with Stella West (Chastain), a mysterious woman whose arrival threatens to blur the boundaries between responsibility and desire, setting the stage for potentially devastating consequences.
Arian Moayed co-stars as Angelo, Gus’ boss, while Annaleigh Ashford plays Jade, his next-door neighbor. Gere is set to portray Jonathan in a recurring role, as will Cho, though details about their characters remain under wraps.
Nutting executive produces alongside Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour, Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, and Showalter with Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions. Additional executive producers include Paul Lee and Gabriel Fisher for wiip, Peter Principato, Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg for Artists First, and Dean Bakopoulos.
Cho’s recent television credits include Apple TV+’s Murderbot and The Afterparty, as well as Peacock’s Poker Face. On the film side, he appeared in Sony’s sci-fi thriller Afraid and Amazon Studios’ Don’t Make Me Go. He will next star opposite Mahershala Ali in Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother.
The actor is best known for his performance in Aneesh Chaganty’s Searching, which earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination, as well as for starring roles in Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop, the Harold & Kumar franchise, American Pie, and as Hikaru Sulu in Paramount’s Star Trek reboot films.
