Mandy Patinkin to Play Odin, the All-Father, in Prime Video’s “God of War”
Mandy Patinkin has joined the cast of Prime Video’s God of War, stepping into the role of Odin in the high-profile television adaptation of PlayStation’s blockbuster video game franchise.
Patinkin, whose credits include Homeland and The Princess Bride, will portray the All-Father of Norse mythology, a calculating and deeply dangerous figure whose power lies less in physical dominance than in manipulation, paranoia and an obsessive pursuit of knowledge. In the series, Odin is driven by a singular goal: preventing Ragnarök, the prophesied end of the gods, at any cost. He serves as a central antagonist to Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst.
The series is written and showrun by Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind) and follows Kratos and his young son Atreus as they journey through the Norse realms to fulfill a final wish — scattering the ashes of Atreus’ mother, Faye. Along the way, the story explores the evolving relationship between father and son, as Kratos struggles to guide Atreus toward godhood while learning to reconnect with his own humanity.
Additional cast members include Teresa Palmer as Sif, Thor’s wife and the goddess of family; Max Parker as Heimdall, the vigilant Watchman of Asgard and one of Odin’s sons; and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as the thunder god Thor.
God of War recently received a two-season order from Prime Video and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Moore executive produces alongside Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers.
Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys) is set to direct the first two episodes.
