Tirsa Hackshaw’s “Unmerciful Good Fortune” Adds Antonio Banderas to Stacked Cast
308 Entertainment’s supernatural thriller Unmerciful Good Fortune has assembled an impressive cast, with Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas set to star opposite Rosario Dawson, Scott Eastwood, and Susan Sarandon. The film comes from writer-director Tirsa Hackshaw and is currently in pre-production.
Based on Edwin Sánchez’s stage play, Unmerciful Good Fortune centers on Maritza Cruz (Dawson), a high-powered celebrity attorney drawn into a high-profile murder case involving a young woman accused of killing multiple people. The case takes a disturbing turn when the defendant claims she possesses psychic abilities and commits the murders to prevent even worse futures, sending Maritza into a spiraling moral and spiritual reckoning.
Banderas will portray Pito Cruz, while Eastwood takes on the role of Paul Leslie and Sarandon stars as Dr. Irene Charles.
The film is produced by Tom DeSanto, Corey Large, Rosario Dawson, Brian Kirchoff, and Jordan Wilson. Financing is being handled by Playhouse Group, with Lorcan Kavanagh leading the effort and Gordon Bijelonic serving as executive producer. Additional executive producers include Tim Marlowe and Jordan Nott.
Banderas recently appeared in Babygirl, Paddington in Peru, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The actor, who first rose to prominence through his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in Pain and Glory. He is represented by Emanuel Nunez of NuCo Media Group and Greenberg Glusker LLP.
“We’ve been joking in prep that it’s a murderer’s row; the talent joining this film is staggering,” Hackshaw said. “It’s the perfect lineup to tell this darkly lyrical story that sits at the edge of the psychological and the supernatural.”
Producer Tom DeSanto echoed the enthusiasm, calling Banderas “a living legend” and adding that the project aims to be the kind of supernatural thriller that leaves audiences talking long after the credits roll.
